Indian Chess School (ICS) is an exciting initiative by India's first FIDE Instructor (World Chess Federation’s (FIDE) Licensed Chess Trainer) Praful Zaveri.
Established in the year 2010, Indian Chess School (a division of ‘Indian Chess School Private Limited’) is now recognized as India’s Premier Chess Training School.Indian Chess School is currently operating from 12-centers (and growing!) with headquarters at Don Bosco High School, Borivali. It has a base of 175+ students (age-group: 7-14) on its roll.
We, at ICS, bring you the latest coaching methodologies for our budding chess players. Our feedback system ensures a fun and exciting environment of learning for our students.
We help our students to improve according to their individual needs by keeping a low kids-to-coach ratio.
The exercises involve the latest equipment and training plans focused on holistic development of our young players under a system that combines all aspects of this beautiful game - technical, tactical, physical, mental and social.
The chess journey of Praful Zaveri can be traced back to the year 1980. Like all aspiring chess players, who used to assemble at Zandu Canteen – the ‘Mecca’ of Bombay Chess Association for a fun-filled evening of playing chess! His successful stint as a chess player was laid in the year 1980 itself. He was the champion of his college – the P.D. Lions College of Science & Commerce, Malad (West) for a period of 3-consecutive years from 1983 to 1985. During these years, he also represented his college as the ‘Captain’ in the Mumbai University’s Inter-Collegiate Chess Championships. He won the top-board prize in the 1985 edition and was called for inter-varsity selection trials. He joined the services of LIC of India in the year 1985 and, in the same year he won the LIC Western Zonal Chess Championship at Satara to qualify for LIC All India Chess Tournament. He repeated his winning stint at Satara next year. He represented Western Zone at the LIC All Indian Tournaments held at Agra and Bhubhaneshwar in the year 1985 and 1986 respectively. By virtue of his qualification from the Bombay Selection Trials, he also represented the then Bombay District in the Maharashtra State Championship for 3-consecutive years from 1992 to 1994 at Kolhapur, Pune and Mumbai respectively. His interest in administration and passion for teaching chess made him associated with Bombay Chess Association (BCA) and, he started training aspiring young children from 1994. He opened his first center at the Bima Nagar High School, Borivali and from a modest beginning of 4 students, it soon had 100+ students in no time!
