Program Date - 02 Dec 2015
The magic carpet is an ongoing workshop specially designed for the early years i.e. children from the age of 5 to 7.
Children have an innate capacity to invent stories, create fictional characters and settings, and utilize expressive dialogue as they play. we call this capacity make-believe play. the combination of imagination and pretending is what makes this kind of playing so powerful in the development and growth of children.
The magic carpet channels this capacity for make-believe play through a set of carefully selected stories which animate the imagination, stimulate thinking and develop social skills. the aim here is not to tell stories to children but to make them live through, and explore, the situations and characters in the story.
The journey is supplemented by other activities which develop motor and tactile skills, communicative abilities and emotional intelligence. activities include music and movement, roleplaying games, and making props.
The program evolves through a period of ten weeks at the end of which there will be an interactive sharing session with the parents.
The program is facilitated by simran arneja. simran is one of the co-founders of yellowcat theatre. trained in the drama teachers training program from barry john's imago studio, simran worked in yellowcat’s outreach program, working with schools like sri ram, cambridge, ridge valley, heritage, and aardee. she is a certified celta teacher and has been practicing drama for the last ten years. curriculum designer, language teacher and drama facilitator are the three roles she juggles together to develop and broaden young learners' skills of communication, creativity and confidence.
