Kathak Kendra, the National Institute of Kathak Dance, is a premier Dance institution of the country, dedicated to promoting the practice, development and awareness of Kathak Dance as an artistic skill, as well as a component of the rich classical heritage of the nation.
The Elementary course offers introductory knowledge and training in the various aspects of Kathak Dance. It also equips the students with a strong foundation required to study Kathak at a professional level in the Advance courses. Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, is a Constituent Unit of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, and its management vests in the Executive Board of the Akademi, which is assisted by an Advisory Committee and the Director of the Kendra. Sushmita Ghosh joined the teaching faculty of the London branch of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan soon after graduating from the Kendra. She taught, created and performed in the UK and Europe for over a decade before returning to India to continue her Dance journey. During this time Sushmita Ghosh created the first syllabus for examination in Kathak Dance for students training in the UK and Europe with ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing). These exams are now taken worldwide by several hundred students every year. A firm believer in the eternal relevance of the classical arts in the contemporary world, Sushmita Ghosh strives to uphold the study and training in the performing arts, as a means of education and enlightenment for all.
