The Angel Dance Academy was started over 15 years ago by Mrs J Trivedi, a Bollywood trained professional herself. Angel Dancers is based in London, and caters for a huge range of dance styles including Classical, Folk, Modern, Bollywood, Bhangra, Hip Hop, Latin American, Street and Indojaz.
Mrs J Trivedi (Jyoti to her students and colleagues) has made the Angel Dance Academy one of the largest in London, and the academy's dancers have performed in shows across the world, in Movies (including Bend it Like Beckham and East is East), in TV (including BBC Children's in Need) and in Videos.
For Jyoti Trivedi - the owner, teacher, director and choreographer of the school - Angel Dancers was initially a concept - a dream she had in which she aimed to pass on the traditions of her home culture to the new generation of young British Indians.
Previously only able to relate to their true culture through Bollywood movies, the confusion of being neither English nor Asian was having a severe impact on the 2nd and 3rd generations of Indian Immigrants. The children had no identity, and were unsure of how to behave in dress, speech and in mixed-cultural social interaction.
However, through her dance choreography Jyoti has found a niche, and is a master in raising awareness of Indian dance, and of passing on the valued morals and traditions of respect and pure culture both to her students, and to her awed audiences. The uniqueness of the story of the History of Angel Dancers is only overshadowed by the story of the school's undeniable and phenomenal past and current success.
