we saw the great good that Ankur helped us achieve, we knew it was time for a bigger, more wide-reaching project. Then was born, The Samhita Academy. Ankur then grew to have 3 children’s homes and a strength of almost 30 children. Residential facilities and English-medium schooling opportunities through third party schools in the neighbourhood were provided to these children. This was to ensure they stay within the program at least till they complete school and are able to earn independently. The success of this program helped us to envision a larger dream! We felt the need to provide quality education in an inclusive environment. And that’s when Samhita was born - a self-sustaining school that caters to the educational needs of children from upper-middle class families while simultaneously including the children of Ankur in a ratio of 1:5. (One child from the Ankur community, for every 4 children in the Samhita Academy ). And this dream, we call The Samhita Academy. Ankur - The Samhita Comprehensive Residential Scholarship (CRES) For the children of the underprivileged sections of society, education has never been accessible. The harsh realities of deprivation, neglect & abuse along with lack of support and the need to contribute to the family exchequer from a young age have made it almost impossible for such children to succeed. The CRES aims at providing a loving and caring environment for such children to help them, through quality education and complementary home care, become contributory members of society. We admit children at a very young age and assume complete responsibility for their education, physical and emotional well being. The children are housed in safe, clean & comfortable hostels, with house-mothers to look after them, overseen by the Boarding-in-charge. On joining, the children are acclimatized with the routines of a middle class home. Immunization plans, hygiene, health care & nutrition are monitored with the assistance of nurses. Home schooling is done for at least 6 months to make them school ready, before they join the sessions in June. The extensive after school program consists of tuitions, projects, remedial & language classes & library time. Weekends & holidays see these children participating in various sports, arts, music, dance & theatre. Movies, shopping, birthday parties, the occasional burgers & pizzas are some more fun activities. The residential hostel teachers help the children in times of emotional conflict or distress. Social skills & values are important aspects of this relationship. The biological parent-child bond is nurtured through regular visits. However, the future of the child is essentially moulded and secured by the Trust. As they grow up, they will be guided to make appropriate choices based on their talents & aspirations. Started in 2005, we currently have 120 children, all proud students of The Samhita Academy. It is our mission to make a difference in the life of children - one child at a time. **Fee: INR 131500/- to 140870/- per year **Duration of class: 7 hours
