Founded: Sprouts Montessori House Of Children was founded in March 2003 as an after school activity at 356 T T K Road , Alwarpet. In June 2004 it was upgraded into a regular day school that would exclusively provide emphasis in the core principles of Montessori basededucation. Executed the project at the above address for four years (Children count increased from 5 to 40). To accommodate the growing number school shifted premises to 177 Luzchurch Road in October 2008 where the strength of children increased to80. It moved to its present location at 10/56, Luz Avenue Road in May 2012. The current strength of children is 160. Leadership: Founder, Director and Head of School Smita Vishweshwar has done her Graduation in Economics, Maths and Statistics from Calcutta University. Montessori training for Primary Children from Centre for Montessori Training Chennai . Elementary Montessori training from Indian Institute For Montessori Studies, Bangalore Training of teachers at Centre for Montessori Training Chennai from 2003 to 2008. Consultant for setting Montessori environment at SOS village , Tambaram Trustee, Nishkam Trust which works alongside with Government and set Montessori environments in 13 Balwadis in different areas of Chennai. Has completed certified programme at IIM Calcutta in Executive programme in leadership and Management. Accreditations and affiliations: Accredited and registered with the Indian Montessori Centre. Registered with Tamil Nadu Government as Sprouts Montessori & Nursery House Of Children Grade levels: The school serves children between the ages of 1 ½ years to 12 years in mixed-age classrooms. Toddler Montessori has two sections and serves children from 1 ½ years to 3 years Primary Montessori has two sections and serves children from 3 years to 5 ½ years corresponding to pre kg , LKG and UKG Lower Elementary – 5 ½ years to 9 years which corresponds to class 1, 2, and 3. (5 ½ years to 6 years is the transition period from Primary to Lower Elementary) Upper Elementary – 9 years to 12 years ( class 4, 5, 6 ) At the moment lower Elementary and Upper Elementary are merged together withvision of two separate environments from the next academic year 2015- 2016. Special features: Outstanding Toddler, Primary and Elementary program for children including exposure to various forms of art, clay modelling, rhythm and movement, drama and storytelling, excursions and celebrations. Low teacher-student ratios, fostering respectful working relationships with children and adults Multipronged approach to math and language instruction using Montessori materials along with CBSE curriculum Tamil and Hindi language given equal importance being the National and State Language and taking into consideration the child ‘s capability of learning 6 languages at this age. Field Trips/Excursions are conducted every term to give a practical exposure to the children, be it the animals or the flora by taking them to zoo or to a botanical garden. Celebrations: Every festival or event is organized in the school meticulously to celebrate the unique aspect of each festival in a child friendly approach. We are proud to run and administer as an all women team. At present Sprouts has 16 female teachers, 7 female helpers.
