Percussive Arts Centre is a registered body in Bangalore, India, to encourage the activities of percussive instruments, especially in the system of Indian classical music. It was founded in the year 1981 by Ghatam maestro Late Sangeetha Kalarathna Bangalore K. Venkatram. Prof. V. Krishna, who is the son of Bangalore K. Venkatram, is presently the Executive Director of the organisation. Mr. M.R. Doraiswamy Iyengar, well-known chartered accountant and Director, United Spirits, is the President of Percussive Arts Centre. Dr. A.H. Rama Rao, well-known philanthropist, is the Patron-in-Chief. Padmabhushan Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. R.K. Srikantan is the Chairman, Advisory Council. Percussive Arts Centre was founded with the objective of promoting the knowledge of rhythm (tala and laya) and its importance in Indian Classical Music. Towards this end, the Arts Centre organises lecture demonstrations, special percussion concerts, national level seminars, percussion music competitions, youth festivals besides monthly concerts. The Arts Centre organises 'Thalavadyotsav' - the annual percussive arts festival and music conference during which eminent musicians and musicologists are felted for their contribution to promotion of percussion in Indian Classical Music.
