Founded by late B.R.P.Swamy in 1973 the Institute has gained great heights in its course of consistent growth. His vision was so for sighted in creating stars is yielding glorious results. After funding the entire cost of running this his dream institute the Government of Karnataka came to his aid and assistance seeing at the enormous potential of training the Film Stars by the institute. Sri. B.R.P. Swamy was ably and amply supported by Late Sri. R. Nagendra Rao an icon of the Film Industry in those years itself. As the first principal of this august Institute, he put a strong foundation on which the stupendous Institute stands today. The Government had already recognized and gave the grant in aid in the year 1979. Since then till this day the Government of Karnataka is taking care of entire working of the Institute. Late Sri. B.R.P.Swamy The Government conducts the Diploma examination in the month of May every year to the successful candidates in the Final Examination held under the aegis of S.S.L.C Board. The Diploma - D.F.A issued by the Government is a valuable one as with the help of this Diploma a graduate can pursue his Post Graduate Course in D.D.M at the Bangalore University. After the demise of Sri.R. Nagendra Rao, the Institute was headed by stalwarts like B.V.Karanth, Girish Kasaravalli, T.S.Nagabharana, K. Janakiram all have contributed their mite to the popularity the Institute has gained. Now it is being headed by Dorai Bhagwan the ever-popular Director of Kannda Films. Highly impressed by the achievements of the Institute, the Government granted 10 acres of land to develop the Institute in Hesaraghatta. Sri. B.R.P. Swamy built two huge class rooms and a hostel which can house 40 students at the Hesaraghatta campus. The Acting Section is being run there and nearly 25 outstation students stay in the Hostel. A Well-equipped Canteen is also established there. Starting from training 15 students in 1973, today 75 students on its rolls. Besides Acting Section Sri. B.R.P. Swamy started the Playback Section in 1974 itself. This section trained Film Singers under the able baton of Famous Music Directors, Rajan – Nagendra. Nearly 20 to 25 students are trained in this craft every year. Government has sanctioned 28 teaching and non –teaching staff for the Institute to Carry out its daily chores. After the retirement of Sri.B.R.P. Swamy in 2002 owing to ill-health, Sri.M. kiran, is a young and Dynamic person took over as the Managing Director and since then he is guiding and governing the Institute to its glory by introducing Direction, Cinematography, Editing and other Courses. The Institute is doing a yeomen service to the kannada Film Industry in preparing proficient Artists and Singers
