Being a mom is a tough job. You might have heard others say it a million times but wouldn’t have realized the intensity of it until you were actually in the position. There are times when you make mistakes and do things that you are not proud of. Here are some ways of getting through those horrible days when you feel you that you are an awful mother on the face of the earth.

Take a break

Everybody needs a break. Period. Although as a mom you might rarely get an opportunity to put up your feet and get some respite. When you feel that you are reaching the end of the rope, close to tears or getting close to losing it, walk away. Take a few deep breaths and give yourself a chance to regain your composure. If you have somebody who could help watch the children, take a refreshing hot shower or step out for a breath of fresh air to clear your head.

Don't blame yourself

You might be doing the best you can for your child but he/she might still be acting out. Do not blame yourself. Especially during adolescence, due to a surge in hormones, children tend to lose control as they try to assert their individuality. See what you can do differently to help the child change his/her behavior.

You are not alone

Our failures and weaknesses are not who we are. All parents go through these phases of insecurity. If you think that the perfect family next door has no clue what you are going through, think again. They are probably trying to keep it under wraps in the fear of being judged.

Reassure yourself

You are just human and are entitled to have your off days. It is the sum of your children’s childhood and not just one bad day that shapes their character. You might have lost your cool and messed up on one day. Try to put it behind you and start fresh?

Being a parent is not easy but one of the most worthwhile things that you will ever do. No one is perfect. The fact that you care and are trying to improve is all that matters. Put today’s mistakes aside and start on a fresh slate. Tomorrow is another day.
